Snuffy's Restaurant in Scotch Plains, N.J., was established in 1932 and is still in business today (2012).

Located at 250 Park Ave. on the corner of Mountain Avenue, the restaurant is famous for its sizzling steaks and fresh seafood, and its "Red Carpet Wedding Plan."

William Robertson, a former speakeasy operator, opened the restaurant after Prohibition was repealed. Robertson also owned shrimp boats in Florida and several hotels.

He retired and sold the restaurant in 1972. Robertson died Dec. 19, 1990, in Melbourne, Fla.

Apparently Snuffy's in the old days offered good family food at reasonable prices. Its reviewers now on chowhound.com don't seem to hold it in much esteem as a 21st century destination.
