The topmark on this bowl, made in 1938, is the Masonic Square and Compasses – architects' tools – that can be found both with and without the central G.

Freemasonry or Masonry are fraternal organizations that trace their origins to the local fraternities of stonemasons of the 14th century. Corresponding to these craft guilds, there are levels within the Masons – and degrees. The base organization of the Masons is the Lodge, which is where this bowl would have been used.
