This really nice celery dish in the Confucius pattern was made by TEPCO, but it does not have the TEPCO backstamped. A quick search found about five Confucius celeries, sold online since 2007, and only one of the five had the TEPCO backstamp. That tells me that this is not a common shape, and also that this shape was seldom marked.
The dish is 9 ¾” by 4 3/8” and is in excellent condition, but it does have heavy utensil wear. You can see a tiny glaze skip in the airbrushing at the top of a mountain on the right, and there’s a smoothed-over small chip on the foot that looks like a manufacturing flaw. There are also lots of minor glaze pops on the back.
It’s quite a handsome piece of an unusual pattern.
